so in Arabic it's now called مسقط هلس ؟

that's messed up, someone should send a letter to muscat municipality.... hahahha just joking...

reminds me of "شو سيتي" few years ago, until they changed it.

I really don't understand it..

If anyone noticed, in the Ministries District in Al-Khuwair, the sign there is not saying "Ministries" in English, and it's rather saying "al-Wizarat". And now instead of calling it Tilal Muscat, in Arabic, they're calling it Muscat Hills, IN ARABIC ?

They're turning Arabic into English and English into Arabic..

weird.

Salam guys,

Just wanted to let you know that we (realitycg) created the new icon for Muscat Hills. Yes I agree that it is unfortunate that the name Tilal Muscat was already taken at the business registrar. We tried many other combinations, but it was decided at board level to run with this. Thought you'd enjoy to hear from the team!

OMG,,

currently I am in Angola,, I discovered that Most ppl here wouldn’t even bother to learn other languages, and that we should learn their Language...

as in Oman, we escape from our own language and start speaking English as it was our first language!!!

It is embarrassing...

Anwar,

Thanks for the response! That is Rad that you stopped by.

Coloman, while I'm in agreement that the mislabeled roadsign for Abu Dhabi (spelled Abu-Dubai)was totally rediculous, I figure a golf club aimed principally at middle aged white guys with bad taste in trousers... It's OK to call it something in English.

Suburban,

Sorry buddy, in Oman we are Arabs even in Dubai who are an extreme they just declared Arabic their first language..... if we the Omanis do not protect our language and let little things slip by we will lose it soon as everyone will think its ok to let people by the sea call their city Marina and then the football area ball city and so on…… we stop it before it starts as the exception will be the norm.

Anwar,

I think there are millions of names to pick from and if Muscat Hills was taken, then you guys with the great ideas and funky concepts could have easily done something different. Come on I was at the launch and you guys did some great animation.

I will do my best to bring up this subject to the people I know. Hopefully someone will listen and order it changed.

hey ppl...

im an expat.. n ive been living in oman for the past 20 yrs ..studied here and everythin....i really respect the fact that you'll want an arabic title..but you'll have to repsect the fact that the whole idea of muscat hills was developed for tourist attraction ...and wats the point of it if they dont understand wat it is..come one guys ( i absolutly love the arabic language n speak it fluently) but you'll have to be more practical than this...thanks

hello there...

did you guys know you couldnt get onto the golf course and play a round in your traditional clothes. You have to be in the "golf attire" i.e. shirts & trousers
i think you guys should be talking about that fact more than worrying about the name being transliteralted...

im omani, and as much as i would have liked it to be in arabic, i agree people who say golf is an international game and must have an international feel to it

Anonymous said...

thanks hani

im also tryin to say that .....Golf is a western game wether u like it or not.....n i dont mean it in a bad way but do you see an Arab playin golf in a dishdasha ??? or an indian woman playin it in her Sari...Noooo right??? so why ask for it to be in arabic...some things are better left as they were meant to be.....i understand if its a residential builing that needs to have an arabic feel to it...dats totally justified....anyways dats just my opion....

Why cant you have 2 names????

Al Moj and The Wave..... what is soooo hard about it? Its no brain buster.

ColOman said...

Please dont tell me that you will not buy a Toyota because its in Japanese....

Translate the word in English if you want to have a name in English but YOU MUST RESPECT the coutry and not have an English name ONLY.

I think there is a misunderstanding as to the post.

The use of Muscat Hill, emphasis on the word "Hills" was not translated when written in Arab using the word "Tilal" thus the Arab name still refers to the English word.

I feel that there should be two uses of the same i.e. Muscat Hills in an English reference and Tilal Muscat as the Arabic use.

I agree with you

Did you hear the latest at Muscat Hills? The buyers have been told to pay 30% additional to their contract price to prevent the project going bankrupt. It has been a joke from the start.

Anonymous said...

I also heard about these price increases. Will make people wonder whether it is safe to trust making Oman investments.

Anonymous said...

Hey guys, The No.1 brand in the world is Coca Cola. What is it called in Arabic ???

Anonymous said...

Regarding the price increase, I heard that the buyers are making a 400% profit while the developer is actually making a loss, and that he has only asked for the actual cost of construction and not a profit. Pretty decent of them, I think.

I'm an expat, but i was born and brought up in Muscat. I feel that even though people think that the name should have an international feel, because its a golf club and a tourist resort, I think thats wrong. The culture and language of a country should be preserved no matter what. In fact, that is the whole point of tourism. Nobody would want to visit Venice if it were a bustling metropolitan city and all the canals and canal boats were changed to tarred roads and taxis. The culture, tradition and architecture are the main attractions basically in a tourist destination. And if you look around, Oman is one of the few countries left in the Middle East where the culture and modersnisation has gone hand in hand and neither has been neglected or degraded. So yeah, if it was named Tilal Oman Golf Club, or Tilal Muscat Golf Club, it would sound definitely more attractive and exotic than Muscat Hills (which by the way i think is a very boring name !!)

Hi Guys, Great Blog!
I am an expat and have been in the Gulf all my life I lived in Bahrain until I was 8 and spoke Arabic as fluent as an 8 year old, then I moved to Dubai where everyone I spoke Arabic to would reply in English and I would feel silly to continue in Arabic so slowly I started to lose the language. I moved to Oman at the beginning of this year and I find the same, even the girls in the petrol station I speak Arabic to reply in broken English with a giggle.
The other day I was in Home Centre and there was an old Omani couple she was completely covered and I was very surprised to hear they were conversing in English.
Just last night I had a couple of my Bahrani friends over and she was speaking Arabic and he would reply in English, go figure.
I miss speaking Arabic and was hoping my move to Muscat would help me to pick up the language again but how is that possible when everyone seems to want to speak English.
Oh and loved the comment on the middle aged men in bad trousers so right and very funny.
If it is such a worry about losing the Arabic language (which will never happen) why isn't this blog in Arabic?

Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club is the name and its going to be that way.
English is the international language. Everyone and their dog speaks it in Oman so what is the issue here?
-
This happens to be my close relatives project I i strongly feel that the title has to project an image that will draw people from around the world to come to oman and enjoy world class golfing not to mention four star holiday villas for rent and sale.
Opportunities like these are few and far between in Muscat, so I strongly urge those of you who are opposed to this to be more open minded for a change.
Thank you.

hello,
to all of you who arent happy with the change in name, i dont think it will concern you since this project is owned 100% by my father and it is highly unlikely that this will change any ones mind within the management. so please accpet the things you cant change.
thanks-

This golf course is expected to be one of the best in all of Asia. Golfers will go for the golfing experience, they will not go to critisize whether or not the name is like this or that. So one should not look at the minor infractions but the great strides and developemental achievements of Muscat Hills, the ultimate Arab golfing experience.

Sincerely,

Hamoud Bin Kais Al Said

Why not have a name for the club and a name for the course like in dubai. Emirates Golf Club has the "Wadi" course and the "Majalis" course?
The club could be "Muscat Hills" and the course could be"_______" whatever?

Golf Course Architecture was set to play in the publication of the Golf Course Design: An Introduction to Geoffery Cornish and William Robinson, in fact some of the criteria for each course should be, gameplay features and maintenance. Three things you will need to be an architect consideration. You 'to ensure that all permits are available and if you received them. You can also discuss local plans, of course, to assess their sense of your own design, and if they agree to own land, where to vote.
