I wonder why we don't have Omani journalists interviewing His Majesty as often? Or as a friend of mine said, maybe it is because we don't have such capable journalists in Oman?

Good question... I dunno. Maybe your friend is right?
I think he gives that type of interview periodically, exactly for a wider audience : this year he needed to clarify for example why Oman refused external help during Gonu . There were many other regional and international issues that needed to be tackled .
Jarallah, you can like him or not [sometimes he is extreme in his views ] but he is a talented journalist, coming also from another environment : Kuwait is a challenging country for a journalist politically speaking .
Journalists here have lost ability to have a critical thinking [and anyway H.M. during the interview specified that he relies on the thinkers of the country for its progress].
An interview with a local would be just a celebrative occasion, while if you read between the lines, the full interview on the Tribune, you see how H.M. sent many messages .

Interesting how when Oman refuses immediate emergency aid from other countries after a cyclone [oops, I meant to say unusual weather] its a good thing, done only to test the countries emergency response capability (which of course it passed with flying colours).
But when Myanmar refuses immediate emergency aid from other countries after a cyclone, everyone agrees they are being dictatorial arrogant idiots needlessly exposing innocent people to further depravation...
Hmmmm.
