UAE Visa for non-GCC Nationals

Is it true that from August the 1st onwards the UAE visit visa for non-GCC nationals is going to cost 50 rials instead of 10 rials only?

We're planning on going to Dubai for a short trip by car sometime in mid-August. Even though we're Oman residents (not citizens) and traveling to Dubai by car, we need a UAE visa which is issued just at the UAE borders and cost 10 rials per person. But I've been hearing from different people that they're raising the fees to 50 rials, does anyone have any idea about this?

If it's true, then I think we're canceling our plans. Because we'd end up paying over 200 rials just for visas for a 4 ~ 5 days visit! Ridiculous.

Thanks a lot Balqis.

Now I have a very clear idea on this issue.

This is indeed ridiculous.

Not so long ago, we expatriates in Oman could go to the UAE as we please without the need of having a UAE visa issued to us in the borders. In fact, that time there weren't even UAE borders, only Omanis.

When the UAE borders were established recently, we were required to get a visit visa which cost 10 rials only. Now it costs 50 rials per person. It is not worth it to pay over 250 rials for a family with 5 members just for a 4 days visit to the UAE, so we're definitely canceling our plans. Not worth it at all...

Apparently as Mahmood Al-Yousif said, "you now have to budget for visas as part of your holiday finances!"

Amjad, I think there is some confusion here. According to the Gulf News piece, while "Short Entry (visit) Visa" costs 500 AED, there is another entry "Entry Visa for GCC State Residents" which amounts to 100 Dhs.

When I read the news few days ago (I re-read again) my feeling was - and remains - that our visas ("GCC Residents") would remain the same.

Perhaps you should re-examine your visit to the UAE!

If you hold a valid resident visa of Oman (or another GCC country for that matter) then the entry visa for the UAE will still cost you AED 100.

Holding a resident visa of any GCC country makes you a "GCC resident" and hence the appropriate category applies...(which has a fee of AED 100/person).

The main objective of taking this step is to reduce expats coming into the UAE. Alot of them come to find job oppurtunities.
There is another rule now that if one has a driver's license of Oman, it cannot be transfered to UAE license like it could be done before.

The UAE has different kinds of visa regime for people of different nations therefore, the best tactics could be to consult the UAE embassy first for any further clarification. Nonetheless, the tourist visa issued by the UAE government lasts for thirty days and it is non-renewable i.e. the days cannot be extended beyond it. The fee is AED 100.

My resident card (Oman)will be expired in 5 months. For next weekend I wanna go to Dubai. will I be able to get the visa at the border or I need my resident card to be valid more than 6 months? who can give me an accurate information about it? I already asked the embassy, but they do not speak English very well and it was not easy to communicate.

Countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia which form the core of GCC and their residents now can obtain a visit visa on arrival in the UAE. However, they should always confirm the same consulting with airline, UAE embassy, or UAE immigration department as the policy level changes are a common happening.

Is computerized Passport compulsory for Dubai visa on Oman/ Dubai border?

Imran said...

Please someone tell me if it is compulsory for an Omani resident to have stayed at least 6 months in Oman (From the date of entry in Oman)in order to get on arrival visa for Dubai (U.A.E.).

Croyden said...

@ Imran. Yes. You have to complete 6 months in Oman to travel to UAE. If or not you get a visa is further subject to your designation(on your residence permit).

Visa is an endorsement on a passport indicating that the holder is allowed to enter, leave, or stay for a specified period of time in a country. See the link below for more info.
