For real?

I'm totally lovin' the new "middle road" which was opened this week and takes you from a new intersection in Al Khuwair where the Zakher roundabout used to be right down the center of Al Khuwair and then through the sand dunes of what used to be 3urooq until you stop at a new intersection in Bausher close to the sports stadium without having to go through the traffic of the highway. The road is still not entirely ready. They're still building some flyovers which will connect the newly opened road and extend it all the way to Hawasna filling station in Death Valley road. When construction ends later this year, the road will run from Madinat Qaboos all the way to Bausher without any stops.

However while driving there today I noticed that they had changed all the speed signs from 80 to 50. For real?!! I tried to slow down to 50 and just couldn't. How can you drive 50 km/h on a two lane road?!!

You mentioned that they are still working on the road, from the pic I can tell they are working on the road..and you're asking why they decreased it from 80 to 50?

I love the new road as well, my only reservation/problem is the exist for Khuwair 25 coming the intersection wasnt well thought out, or maybe its temporary till it is completed. Instead of Zaker mall the new traffic intersection is only 3 ways. The road taking you to Khuwair 25 (technical collage and where a lot of Beauty saloon are - the area before Said bin Taimur Masjid) is closed off. To get there you take the exist at Radission Sas, then take that huge square "roundabout" and make a u-turn turn to go Khuwair 25 taking the technical collage roundabout. They just transfered traffic from Zaker roundabout to the area around Radission Sas.

I hope this is only temporary and they figure out a way to connect Khuwair 25 with the highway directly instead of having to enter the other side of khuwair where Automatic and the hotel is for no reason, getting stranded in traffic and making the way longer then it has to be.

I loved it too, especially that it takes me straight to my office building :p

Ongoing road work could be the reason for limiting the speed to 50. I have taken this route going to work twice and I decided that I would not do that again until it is fully operational

On a slightly different note, I have been recording the time it takes me to go from home to work using different route including this one, I will make the data available to anyone interested once I have compiled them.
