Bloggers meeting

As suggested before by more than a blogger in the previous post, here is a separated post to see how many bloggers are interested in the idea of having a gathering sometime soon, probably after Eid.

It would really be nice if we had a bloggers gathering to get to know each other in real life and spend an hour or two with each other. So what about organizing one after Eid? Is anybody out there interested in this? This is definitely not limited only for the contributors of Oman Community Blog, but every blogger in Oman out there is more than welcome to attend the gathering if it took place...

I always thought that it's best to keep it online as it is yet some of your guys might wish to take it further more into a meeting. So what will it be like? what discussions to take place? Where for example?

The more you clear up the picture for us, the more interested we are. Good thing you brought it up though.

By the way, how come none of my blogs are linked here? *confused*

Meticulousness: This post is posted to discuss where & when to have the meeting. I cannot just choose a place and tell the bloggers we are gathering at this place. Let's see what is the most appropriate place for the bloggers and also the most appropriate timing. I think a coffee shop would be the best place to meet in, and I guess many bloggers do agree on that. But what coffee shop? That's left to the bloggers to choose. When? Also left to the bloggers to choose. What to discuss? .. Anything? Nothing in particular? Just meet, talk and get to know each other more and more. Nothing to be discussed specifically.

As for your blogs, I never noticed that they are not linked here. I will add the links of your blogs now inshallah..

Like we suggested in earlier posts, I think it would be great for all the bloggers to meet up and get to know each other.

We could discuss everyone's blogging routine, how do they find posts and problems they face being bloggers in Oman.

I am not sure about the idea of meeting in a coffe shop because if there'll be lot's of people attending, it will get crouded and inappropriate... I don't know.

I am going to make a post in BeInOman talking about this subject also so, that we can make sure that all bloggers get the message.

We can discuss in this informal gathering the arrangement of bigger events about blogging in Oman. I think that an evening after Ramadhan at a coffeeshop would be appropriate.

I don't think that 'a lot' of people are going to show up, so a coffeeshop might in fact be just good enough.

I'm in, tentatively. Definately after Ramadhan, I think we are all swamped with family commitments. maybe we can pick a big coffee shop so there's plenty of room, and so that our group won't stand out too much.

On one hand I would like the oppertunity to see everyone and talk about blogging face-to face. On the other hand, meeting in person can compromise the Quasi- annonimity many of us enjoy here.

Thank you Amjad for this post, and count me in for bloggers’ meet. To begin with, you just can’t set an agenda to the first meet, rather this can be an opportunity for most of them to talk/hear face-to-face about fellow bloggers. Some of them have been blogging for over 4-5 years now in Oman, and will have interesting experiences to share I hope.

It is true that this will rob the anon status enjoyed by a few of them, but again, if you want to gain something, you have to risk a few things. I don’t have a problem with a coffee shop unless it is very noisy. How about last week of October?

I think that the last week of October sounds good, but I MIGHT not be able to make it if it is anytime between the 22nd to the 31st of October cause I could be attending a training program away from town during that period. Nothing confirm though.

Do you guys prefer weekdays or weekend?

Abdullah Ali said...

Ok then, coffee shop it is.

I don't know any big coffee shops, all the ones I go to are tiny starbucks' around town. Maybe someone knows something.

I think the gathering should be about a week after eid so that we won't have any family commitments. And... I prefer weekends, I don't know about you??

Amjad said...

I guess the most appropriate time would be in the end of the 3rd week of October. Eid will be in the beginning of the 3rd week of October (13th of Oct inshallah) and that whole week will be the Eid's vacation, probably for the public sector employees, but the private sector employees will have a shorter vacation I guess. So what about the weekend of the 3rd week of October? (17th or 18th). or maybe even the weekend after? (24th or 25th?)

As for the venue, a coffee shop would be the most appropriate venue but which one, that's the question. If we are a group of 10 to 20 person, I guess Mermaid Café is a good place (the café next to Grand Hyatt). It's an outdoor café and they have some sort of big tents for big groups.. or if you guys are not with the idea of meeting & an outdoor café, there is another option for meeting at Cinnzeo in Al-Massa Mall. We can reserve the upper stair for our meeting and actually we can do it at a time when the café is not crowded.

I'm game. Dunno why everyone's saying end of October though. Meeting in a coffeeshop is no good. You won't be able to hear one another. In Ramadhan, it would have to be in a place without music or else it will be the same.

Mermaid is a good choice for after Ramadhan. Cinnezeo is also cool if you go upstairs, you end up with some privacy.

I can't plan things so far away. I'm not one who plans and diarizes. Just tell me when and I'll tell you if I can be there.

I'm in, but only if you organize "another" one in December since I'm in the UK now and will be coming back for the Christmas Holidays.

So if you guys succeeded in this one (I Hope), then please organize another one for December.

Thanks =)

Abdullah Ali said...

Cinnzeo sounds good but who will pay for the booking?

Twister said...

I would be pleased to come to a meet...except that I'm a good 8000 miles away until december...

Meeting you people is not worth breaking my international-man-of-mystery persona.

Good luck. (Cinnazeo's upstairs is good for this sort of thing)

Al Nims Media said...

Amjad, please take the headcount first, and decide on the location/date later. I have enough experiences of attending biz networks back in Bangalore, and according to my experience if you expect 50, finally only 25 turn up. So numbers do matter for proper planning.

If 5 people turn up for the first meet, I would say it is a wonderful start to begin with. Once you circulate "Minutes of Meeting", then it will enthuse others to follow suit next time.

For outstation bloggers, we can have web streaming of the event. Any techies on board? :D

Sounds good for those that want it. I'm sure you'll have a ball.

But don't be offended with those like me [and ti3gib - plus may I say I really like his 'international man of mystery' gig!] who would rather stay anonymous...

you are doing a great job man

Now that Muscati mentioned it, why don't we have it in Ramadhan? I think that Cinnzeo is perfect, the place is big and it is relatively quite. I might come along with a couple of bloggers (from Omani Cuisine and Oman3D).

Amjad said...

blue chi: That would be cool. Personally I don't mind doing it in Ramadhan. What do other bloggers think?

Abdullah Ali said...

I am fine with it. I hope it's on a weekend though.

Al Nims Media said...

No problem for me. But, timings? Personally, I would prefer a Wednesday-evening.

In the meantime, could you guys please post on the blog? It hasn't been updated in a while now since this discussion has started!

I'm in. Ramadhan would be good. New work committments mean I'll be out of townon business for most of the end of october / november.

I'm OK with the cinamon roll place, or the mermaid. Though I like the sort of invisiblity the Mermaid offers. But whatever. I'll contribute five rats towards paying for a booking wherever.

Blue Chi said...

OK people, how about next Wednesday, the 3rd of October, 9 to 11pm at Cinnzeo. I don't think that we need to book the place because there can't be too many bloggers coming.

Anonymous said...

I'm there.

Amjad said...

blue chi: I just came to suggest the same! :-p.. Same day, same timing and same venue.. lol

I'm in!

Al Nims Media said...

Count me in too. But how to recognize fellow bloggers??

Blue Chi said...

A number of bloggers already have their pics in displayed (Amjad, Al Mawaali). The first person to come should tell the people that work at Cinnzeo that he is expecting other 'bloggers', so if anybody comes to ask where the meeting is to tell them that he/she is upstairs.

Meticulousness said...

Amjad: May you update the post with the exact time and location for any interested blogger to attend the meeting.

Abdullah Ali said...

Cool, I am in

Amjad said...

Meticulousness: Actually I will make a separated post sometime tomorrow in the morning.
