Hi FM on 95.9

Hi FM, a new private FM station began test transmission on the 95.9 frequency. It's Oman's first English private station following on the launch of Hala FM earlier this year. Both stations, as you can tell from the name, are owned by the OHI group.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but I'm happy to finally have an alternative to the horrible Oman FM.

Have you had a chance to listen? Tell us what you think.

its crap.. it has a bad reception even in MQ and the worst set of music I have ever heard or listened of even if it is better than 90.4 FM.

and they're playing the same list of songs for the past 2 days in their TEST transmission

I've had good reception of Hi FM in Azaiba, Ghobra, The road to the Muscat Private hospital, Al Khuwair, MQ, Shatti Al Qurum, Qurum.

It is their Test tranmission, so it's probably just a play list playing some tracks.

The real comparison will come once regular programming commences... and who knows when that will be?

I only listened to it once. It was on the first day of eid on a drive from MQ to Barr Al Jissah. It was crystal clear until you leave the Bustan road and head off to Jissah.

I agree that the play list really sucks but I'll hold off my opinion they begin the actual broadcast. As it is now it's all oldies from the 90's focusing on soft rock and ballads mostly from boy bands and female vocalists. Not my kind of music at all.

I've only listened to it for a couple of hours but the reception is great in Rabiyat Qurum and I like the music (so far). If they have presenters who can actually speak English and string a coherent sentence together, I'll listen to it!

Rach,

Are you in serious talks with the Hi FM people and how serious are they about hiring you ? ..

I've been contemplating going down to their offices for a few days now to make a suggestion for the first dedicated Rock/Metal show around.

I've written up a few ideas, but have no idea if I'll go ahead and talk to them about it.

What say you ? ..

(p.s. if you're heading towards muscat, pack light)

Hi FM
What a breath of fresh air - decent radio finally available in Muscat.

Keep making positive progress and you will excel since 90.4 FM will never cut the mustard !

Hi Everyone,
I prefer Hi Fm on 95,9 over Oman radio. It plays continous songs (whith no interruption) and it is mixed with old and new songs. The bands you hear the most; robbie williams, spice girls, backstreet boys, five, BEP, britney spears, christina aguilera, timbaland etc. I would like to hear more different kind of types of music; more trance, dance and top 40 music.
The reception is great. We haven't had any problems jet so that's good!

the radio station is ok. but could be much better. try listening to www.bbc Radio one.co.uk. to get an idea of how they work and run theres shows live. maybe take some of there ideas and use them on your shows. keep upto date with the u.k music seen. And on the weekend. tell people ''its the weeeekend''. make oman excited about the weekend. play some house music for the pple that are getting ready for a night out in muscat. x

I think it's awesome. They play most of my favorite music and the reception is great. The DJs make it even more pleasant to listen. I love Kathy and her factoids and also Darren when he yells at his colleagues. The competitions are also great. I have no complaints...just wish I could listen live from work!!!

Awesome. Just driving through... I could receive the station until Sohar. In my 2 days there, I enjoyed the music and the DJs

Honestly speaking,Hi fm has bad reception in muscat and others region s as well moreover the most music being played is rock but my favourite is classic and slow music which i have not listen it on hi fm so far,i suggest to diversify the songs because the listeners have different taste, finally i would like to thank those who set up and work very hard in order to make hi fm well known radio station.
