Oman Web Awards Scam 2007

ABS made a press release today via the Times of Oman newspaper to announce its acceptance of entries for the new scam Oman Web Awards of 2007. This is the third awards in which they make up random awards to give out to big companies in a big dance and music event held in a fancy hotel. There is no transparency in the judgment process and nobody knows on what basis anybody wins. This 'web' creativity, innovation, and excellence competition does not ever mention the names of the designers or developers who actually make these websites. It is a scam in which they take extortionate amounts for entry fees and get tens of sponsors to give out NO PRIZES. Don't waste your time or money on the Oman Web Awards, there is just no point.

  • Read how I fooled them last year to make me a validator and uncovered how their judges pick winners - (Link: Oman Web Awards).
  • Read what happened when I went to the ceremony of the first Oman Web Awards.

I remember the first time around I wanted to apply on behalf of ESO so I filled the form and emailed it to them. They called me and said there's a fee, so I said if there's a fee to participate so I said if there's a fee then we're out bcz we're an NGO and we're not gonna be spending our money on this kind of stuff. Besides, what kind of contest charges you a fee to participate? Then they started hassling me and calling me asking for the fee. It was always like they were debt collectors. I figured out early that it was a scam. And once the winners were announced it became obvious that it was. Some of the worst websites in Oman won awards.

BTW, is it just me, or is this Oman Web Awards scam handled by a different company every year?

Muscat, the scam is handled by the same people everywhere.

Anyway, guys, if you would like to help me spread the word about this scam, please view this post of mine.

Bluechi- The year they tried to scam me it was a company called Daran LLC. Now it's ABS. Did they change the name, or did they make enough money that they decided to get someone else a chance to make money from the scam this time?

I know that ABS ran it last year and this year as well, not really sure about the first one because it was not me who was in contact with them, but it could be!

Yes, The parent company ABS has been using a different company every year to handle the event. First it was Darran LLC, then it was Gazelle International who did the event. Now it is a company called SJS doing it. As Blue Chi rightly said it is a Scam and ABS is just out to make a quick buck.

Yeaah, everything seems like a scam if you don't have the skills to cope with competition and then you end up dissing and scamming yourself. How can you expect respect if you dont respect yourself. The whole scene is just starting out so give 'em a break...
